Welcome to Sue Richards Career Coaching / Counselling
This "heading off course" doesn't only happen in organisations! We all get off track in our career and in life. And that's ok.
What matters is how we turn it around and make conscious, well thought out decisions to get back on track.
Details, details!
Here are some answers to the FAQ's.

How many sessions do I need?
The number of coaching sessions required to meet your goal varies as each client and goal is different.
Generally, I suggest three sessions but we can tailor the number of sessions to suit your needs.
We can meet fortnightly, monthly, or at a frequency that works for you. The objective is to create momentum to keep you forward focused, while giving you the time and space to take action between sessions.
Not sure how many sessions you'll need?
Contact me to book in a FREE 20 minute discovery session to find out more about how the service could work for you.
You will also know whether we are a good match after this one call.
If we are not a good fit, I won't be offended and if I know of another coach who would be more suitable for you, I will let you know!

What makes my service different?

While you are focused on the actions that move you toward your career goal, I support you by organising your learnings and coaching resources. We share a common folder in dropbox where you can access the record of your coaching sessions any time and any resources that may help you on your quest. By the end of your career coaching journey you'll have a solid foundation to build on and be able to reflect on just how far you have come.
What happens in a coaching session?
"What happens in the session?"
"What do I talk about?"
"What if I have nothing to say?"
"What happens if I don't know what I want?"
All great questions ....
A coach is trained to draw out what inspires you, the direction you want to go, and the strategies that will work for YOU to get clarity and direction.
I will work with you to get a clear idea on your "there"... ie: Where/Who do you want to be?
We will then get a clear understanding of your "here" - where you are now, what may be holding you back and what tools do you currently have at your disposal to move you forward?
Action is the absolutely the key and through coaching and you will discover the right actions for you.
You may feel a little uncomfortable and lost in the beginning, but rest assured that as your coach, I have your back and will support you as you find the perfect next career steps for you.

The coaching space - who does what?
You When the coaching session begins, it is all about you. Your role is to think, reflect, expand, and be heard. You'll answer some of these broad questions and identify the best action for you to move you one step closer to your "goal" - as defined by you. You'll bring your trust in the process - but you'll have control over the decisions you make. Every step of the way you'll have the support and motivation of the coach.

MeIt's my job to create an open, positive space, to listen deeply and give you time to discover. I'll ask questions to clarify and refine your thoughts, challenge you and help you question current beliefs in a non-judgmental space. I record, organise and assist you to interpret your thoughts, words, and actions, highlighting your strengths to help you discover the best way forward. As we discover the right actions for you, I'll keep you accountable and forward focused.

UsThe outcomes from the coaching relationship are powerful and unique to each client. Together we'll find answers to some of the big career questions - where you want to be, and how to get there from here. We'll work in collaboration to equip you with tools and strategies that work for you.
Just like a professional sports coach works with an athlete to build up muscle tone and develop skills, I'll challenge and support you to push yourself to be who and where you want to be in your career. |
What is the difference between coaching and other practitioners?
Mentor
Practitioner focus:
Usually a professional within the same field as the 'client,' with a personal interest in the client's professional development or success. Not necessarily trained in mentoring, but shares insights from training and experience from their field of expertise. Client needs: I am working toward a goal in my particular field and I need ongoing support and advice from someone who has been down the same path. |
Counsellor
Practitioner focus:
Usually offers short term talk-based treatment for a particular problem (e.g. marriage issues, grief, etc.). Often focused on identifying the root cause of issues that hold people back and giving them tools for letting go so that they can look ahead from a more positive perspective. Client needs: I need to talk to someone and download about what is going on in my life at the moment and get some practical advice on what I can do in this situation. |
Coach
Practitioner focus:
Focuses on what the client wants in the future and works with the client to create plans and strategies to reach their goal. Has training in coaching. Sees the client as resourceful and whole. Does not give advice (may offer suggestions). Client decides course of action. Client needs: I'm feeling stuck. I am not sure which direction I need/want to take, or I have so much going on that I need someone to walk beside me, to help guide me find my own answers. I want to become stronger and more skilled at living a better quality of life. |
